BBC - Radio 4 - Today Programme Iraq Report was sitting in my comfortable seat in the train, filling in the latest scores on my handy A4 size World Cup chart, when there was an announcement. The games in Group D had finished. The scores, we were told, were Portugalyou're on the train. Of course, it goes without saying that, in this World Cup, the announcement of the scores was sponsoredand humid day when I went to see Poland play Costa Rica in Hanover . It is basic common sense that fans should be allowed - in fact, encouraged - to drink as much water as they cansomeone. Ok, that's an understandable concern. Once you're in the stadium, though, you can buy water for four Eurosagain. And, yes, there it was - I wasn't imagining it. In fact, it was actually slightly louder than before. I continuedWelsh should support England. But there they were, right in front of me - three men in kilts and a bagpiper, blasting out a rather raucous rendition of "Flower of Scotland". And, no, we weren't inGlasgow but about 300 yards from the World Cup stadium in Hanover! Scottish supporters with bagpipes www.bbc.co.uk | |
